SPUR is a member-supported, volunteer-driven public policy think tank with staff and committees focused in a variety of program areas, including good government, community and regional planning, transportation, economic development and housing.

The mission of the organization is to promote good planning and good government in the San Francisco Bay Area through research, education and advocacy. SPUR builds support for land use, transportation and investment strategies to support urban economic vitality and has been involved with virtually every major planning decision in the city over the last half century. In a city dominated by single-interest politics, SPUR plays the crucial role of uniting citizens to jointly craft solutions to our common problems.
